Why Is Pinot’s Palette One of the Best Franchises for Veterans?
Pinot’s Palette is a top franchise for veterans, as ranked by Franchise Business Review. Veterans make up over 12% of the Pinot’s Palette system.
Pinot’s Palette offers veterans a 20 percent discount on the initial franchise fee. We also partner with VetFran, which is a national initiative that encourages franchises to offer veterans financial discounts, mentoring, and training as they pursue franchise ownership.
Freddy and Nancy Castillo figured if they could survive the rigor of military careers, they could handle opening a franchise. So when Nancy retired from her 20 years of service, and Freddy saw his retirement looming in the near future, they decided to open a Pinot’s Palette® paint and sip franchise in Pasadena, California.
With an MBA in finance and business management, Freddy was extra cautious about evaluating the market and growth projections before deciding on a location. They finally found a great location in Pasadena and began the construction process. “Corporate gives you a hell of a blueprint,” Freddy says. “They give you turnkey instructions and you just need to worry about construction.”
The couple credits their successful studio launch to hard work, market savvy investment, and support from Pinot’s Palette headquarters. “I’m very grateful to Pinot’s Palette. They put you in the best position to be successful as long as you pick the right market,” Freddy says.
Strong Support System
Julie and Dan Truckenbrod talked about owning their own business for years – but until recently, they weren’t ready to commit to a business venture. Dan’s career as an F-18 pilot for the Navy meant that they moved around quite a bit – but when the couple got to San Diego, they realized that the time was right to start a new chapter in their lives. They loved living in the city, and they decided early on that they’d remain there when Dan’s military service came to an end.
The best part of the process, though, was the fact that Pinot’s Palette was there to support Dan and Julie every step of the way, from finding the ideal location to navigating local liquor laws to designing and building their studio. They appreciate the fact that there’s always someone available to answer questions or discuss ideas, and they’ve enjoyed connecting with other franchisees across the country via social media.
Since they opened their studio, business has been good and the Truckenbrods are enjoying their new careers as business owners. For Julie, the most rewarding part of being a Pinot’s Palette franchisee is that it allows her to support charity organizations. She especially enjoys organizing events that support military and veterans’ groups.
What do Harry Truman, George W. Bush, and Pinot’s Palette® franchisees Ray and Heidi Leonard have in common? They all served in the National Guard. While the former presidents may have focused on national security and foreign relations, Ray and Heidi are learning to focus on the local community and customer relations as owners of the South Hill and Federal Way, Washington’s Pinot’s Palette.
With their crazy schedules including Pinot’s Palette ownership, parenting an infant and a toddler, and wrangling two mastiffs, Ray and Heidi knew they had to hire a full-time manager. One of the couple’s favorite aspects of business ownership is the chance to provide jobs to others. But Ray and Heidi’s day-to-day still includes marketing, scheduling, and special events. “We have a full-time manager but he primarily manages the artists… We’re still very involved.”
But they persisted in seeking to create a welcoming space for the community. “We want to make sure we make a place that is worthy,” Heidi reflects. With the grit and determination born of years of military service, Heidi advises potential franchisees that “This is not for the faint of heart. If you want it, then work for it.”
